IBM
International Business Machines
The company that sold the PCs that caused the biggest computer rush in recorded history. This does not necessarily mean that the system (@nor@ its operating system) has a particular good design.
IIR
Infinite Impulse Response
A term used in digital filtering techniques. Infinite impulse response means that a recursive filter is used (the output is fed back into the input). See also FIR.
ISO
the International Standards Organisation
International standards about how things should be but never are. ANSI is another standards organisation.
ISP
Internet Service Provider
A company or other organisation which provides the access to the world through a network (LAN or WAN) and/or telephone connections.
