- OCR
- Optical Character Recognition
Computerized method with a (digital) video camera (see CCD) and a lot of
complex software to recognize the writing of the computer or from humans (I
don't think they have tried reading monkeys writing yet).
- OCX
- OLE Control eXtension
A component software technology from Microsoft that enables a Windows program
to add funtionality by calling ready-made components (submitted by Henrik Stahr).
- ODE
- Ordinary Differential Equation
A mathematical equation for a function described by its derivatives. See also
PDE.
- OEP
- Old Enthusiastic Programmer
This was a reply from a person (not known to me) to YEP. I must say, this
person has a sense of humour.
- OLE
- Object Linking and Embedding
Insertion of objects (text, graphs, tables, etc) into other documents whereas
the receiving document is not responsible for the maintainance of the object.
The objects creator program stays responsible. OLE provides a powerful method
for cross-linking documents while retaining integrity when documents are
updated.
- OOP
- Object Oriented Programming
Some kind of structured programming which makes reading and understanding a
program almost impossible.
- OWL
- Object Windows Library
An OOP environment developed by Borland
for Windows. OWL version 1.0 was a very nice and easy library. Versions 2.0 and
higher are realy object oriented and much harder to understand.
